John J. Swoboda, 86 of West Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away Saturday morning, October 24, 2015 at Scallop Shell Nursing & rehabilitation Center, South Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Born in Plains, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph & Josephine (Slabinski) Swoboda.

He was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, The University of Rhode Island, and earned his Master’s Degree in Music from the University of Connecticut. John was a music professor at Wilkes College and last for Providence College, Providence, RI, until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife Louise (Holland) Swoboda, his brother Joseph Swoboda, and his sister Louise Becker.

Surviving are his daughter Mary Jo Swoboda, and grandson Sean, Wakefield, RI, brother Carl Swoboda and his wife Judy, Plains, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held in SS. Peter & Paul Church, Plains, with entombment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Arrangements were entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705.
