James P. “Jimmy” Haggerty Jr., 51, of Plains Twp., passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, January 14, 2021 at his home.

Born in Plains, he was the son of the late James and Mary Anne (Maynard) Haggerty, Sr. Jimmy attended Plains Jr. High School and James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre and Wilkes-Barre Area Vocational School, where he excelled in the Automotive Mechanics Program.

Jimmy for several years owned and operated J and H Automotive in Plains and most recently was employed by Smith Blacktopping in Wilkes-Barre.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and skier and enjoyed spending time at his family’s hunting cabin in Le Raysville, PA, and the infamous Rainbow Inn.

Jimmy was a strong and tenacious man, lived hard, worked hard, loved his family, and had a heart of gold. He will be sadly missed. If you were his friend, you were a friend for life. If you were his foe, he would let you know. He was great at embellishing a story and quick to remind everyone “Sometimes chicken, sometimes feathers.”

Surviving are his Sisters Ann Haggerty-Rudolph and husband Matt, Harrisburg, Kathleen Haggerty, Plains, Michelle Kershaw and her husband Arthur, Narragansett, RI, and Theresa Gianello and husband Joe, Old Forge; Brother Michael Haggerty and wife Lauren, Cohasset, MA; Nieces and Nephews; Eric, Jimmy, Sam, Alec, Christopher, Mia, Vito, Rocco, Jack and Sadie, longtime companion De’Andrea Verdekal.
