Schmid, 83 of Dallas, passed away Sunday evening, September 18, 2022 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital with his family by his side. Born March 14, 1939 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Anita (Trivelli) Schmid. Ernie was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1957 and was a United States Navy Veteran. Upon his honorable discharge from active service, he along with Carl Wilcox opened S & W Restaurant on Main Street in Wilkes-Barre in 1962. Ernie was a constant presence at the restaurant until his retirement in May of 2001. He continued to work at the restaurant when ownership was passed to his sons Joseph and Ernie. Ernie was a member of the Italian American Civil Rights League, Past Grand Knight of the Dallas Knights of Columbus, loved drag racing, street rods, and classic cars. He was a hardworking businessman, with a great smile, quick wit, a good sense of humor, intelligent and loved tinkering with anything mechanical and electrical. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Schmid, and his sisters Antoinette “Dolly” Wilcox and Carmela “Millie” Zimmerman. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Judith Louise George, Dallas, daughter Lisa Schmid and her partner Mike Dante, Mountain Top, sons Larry Schmid and his wife Sherri, Oakland Tennessee, Joseph Schmid, Dallas, Pete Schmid and his wife Ranae, Savanah, Georgia, and Ernie Schmid and his wife Nikki, Swoyersville, grandchildren Gabrielle and Martina Schmid, Gianna and Alexa Webby, and Gavin Schmid, great-grandchildren Elias, Kingston, and Dakota, brother Gerard Schmid and his wife Rose, Dallas, nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Ernie will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705. Family and friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 pm until the time of service. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, 3551 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140 in Ernie’s name.Ernest L. Schmid
