I am saddened by the passing of Mrs. Downey. She was not only my 11th grade American Literature teacher; but she was also inspirational in my decision to pursue a teaching degree in English. Later, we were colleagues and I was honored to call her-- Friend. She was a remarkable professional, respected by all. She had a beautiful manner about her that was honest, sincere and real. From an author she taught me to love---- Mark Twain stated: "The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time." I am comforted in knowing that Carol loved life and lived it fully. With prayers and gratitude, Gail Meeker Honeywell ( NHS Class of 1990 )

Dear Bill, So, so sorry to hear of Carol's passing. She was a dedicated teacher not only to the students, but to the Northwest School community. She was giving of herself for the good of the students and the school. She took on tough issues and didn't back down when she knew she was right. She also was fun-loving. I will miss running into her on the "patio". You and her family are in my thoughts and prayers. Kay

Bill- We send you our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers. Carol was amazing! I am grateful that I not only had her as a teacher, but I shared time with you both as a neighbor and friend. My fondest memories are of her joking with you and loving those pups. Carol was an amazing teacher and friend, and the best love to Teddy, Suzie Q, and Shamrock! We are so so sorry. Love ...Mandy and Lora
