Arthur S. Hakim

Arthur S. Hakim, 82 of Plains Township, passed away Tuesday evening, August 8, 2023 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital with his family by his side.

Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Arthur Simon and Mildred (Borland) Hakim.

Art was a graduate of Plymouth High School and Bloomsburg University, earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education.  He was a member of the United States Air Force Reserve and was employed as an Art teacher in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for 40 years.  He also served as Athletic Director for Plains Junior High School and Solomon Plains Junior High School. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Arthur was a loving husband and father. He was an avid antique collector and loved visiting flea markets and antique shops. Arthur also enjoyed watching the New York Yankees. He loved to draw in his spare time. He loved to make people laugh and was known for his sense of humor and pranks he would pull on his co-workers.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Virginia Kmush, daughters Tracey Hakim and Kelly Hakim, all of Plains, sister Judy Gavrish, Plymouth.

In accordance with Arthur’s wishes, funeral services were private and held at the convenience of the family from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.

Burial was held at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township, PA.

The family would also like to thank Allied Service Hospice especially Kristi Green, RN, CHPN and Chaplain Gerlin Valencia, PhD, for the comfort and compassion they provided to Arthur and his family in his final hours.
