William D. Evans, III

William David Evans, III, 43 of Plains Township, passed away Saturday morning, July 29, 2023 at his home after a courageous battle against Cancer with his family by his side.

Born in Plains Township on December 9, 1979, he was the son of William David, and Marion Catherine (Evanchick) Evans, Jr.

In his younger years, he played many sports including tee ball, baseball, cross country, track, and football.  He also loved snowboarding, BMX bike racing and karate.

Bill was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1998 where he was a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Aviation Maintenance Administrationman 2nd Class, (AZ2), serving aboard the USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7), out of Norfolk, VA.  Upon his honorable discharge from active service in 2003, Bill attended Penn State University for Business Management.  He was employed as a forklift driver at Tobyhanna Army Depot, and last in the customer service department at the Social Security Administration.

Bill was an avid reader and loved Dungeon & Dragons, and gaming.  He wrote short stories and had them published in online forums.

Surviving in addition to his parents William and Marion, are his sister Amanda Evans, paternal grandmother Joan Evans, and niece Natalee Evans, all of Plains, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral Services for Bill with Military Honors accorded by the United States Navy, will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 6:45 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705, with Rev. Fred Croop, Pastor of the Miner Congregational Church, Abbott Street, Wilkes-Barre, officiating.  Family and friend may call Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until the time of service.
