Walter R. Chappell

Walter Raymond Chappell, 82 of Dallas passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 while under the care of Allied Hospice Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Born and raised in Trucksville, PA, Walter was the son of the late Raymond W. and Marion Louise (Rogers) Chappell.

He was a graduate of Dallas High School, Class of 1959, the first graduating class of the Dallas jointure.

Walter worked as a union electrician for IBEW Local 163, earning his 50 year certificate.

Walter met Mary Elizabeth in her hometown of Wyalusing and were married shortly after. Walter was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 281, and was a Mason in George M. Dallas Lodge #531. Walt was also a member of the Wyoming Valley Stamp Club.

After he retired from being an electrician, Walter drove school bus for a number of years in the Lake Lehman School District. He also worked as a valet’ at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Walter enjoyed fishing, trains, collecting stamps, and watching Penn State Football.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, the home health nurses, and especially Allied Hospice Care for keeping Walter safe and comfortable during his many illnesses. Walter’s daughter-in-law Tracey was a tremendous help, taking care of him while he was home.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Louise King.

Walter is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Elizabeth (Harned) Chappell of Dallas, his sons Jay Chappell and wife Seana, Sweet Valley, Mark Chappell and his wife Tracey, Dallas, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, his sister Connie McClure and her husband Larry of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Walter will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 3:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705, with services conducted by Rev. Dr. Murray Thompson, Andrew Harned (Walt’s nephew) and members of George M. Dallas Lodge #531. Friends may call Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Merryall Cemetery, Wyalusing, PA.
