Flynn, 84, of Austin, Texas, and formerly of Plains, PA, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 14, 2016 in Austin, Texas. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Martin J. and Elizabeth M. (Long) Flynn. Tom was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1948 and was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Upon his discharge from the army, Tom attended King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry. He then attended Northeastern University, Boston, Ma, earning his Master’s Degree in chemistry. He was employed by IBM as a Senior Engineer for 25 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Thomas More Church, Austin, Texas, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He was an avid Washington Redskins football fan and enjoyed traveling on business and with his family. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon F. Brubaker, and his nephew Ronald Milgate. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Mary V. Varga, Austin, TX, son Thomas R. Flynn, daughters Regina Veino and her husband Ted, and Linda M. Flynn, all of Austin, TX, grandchildren Colleen M. Veino, Shawn Veino, and Dylan Veino, Brothers Joseph Flynn and his wife Gloria, Plains, PA, and Martin J. Flynn, Hernando, FL, nephews Michael Flynn, Joseph Flynn, Ryan Flynn, as well as nieces Patricia Cree, Cathleen Huddleston, and Karen Weilbrunner Funeral will be held Friday, January 22, 2016 at 9:00 am from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in SS. Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road Plains, PA with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held in the parish cemetery, Plains.
