Carter, 90 of Kunkletown and a lifelong resident of Plains Township, passed away Tuesday morning, April 6, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospice House, East Stroudsburg, PA. Born in Plains, she was the daughter of the late Carl J. and Anna L. (White) Carter. Shirley was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Plains, and Wilkes-Barre Business College. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and was employed as a bookkeeper, last at Wyoming Frocks until her retirement. A woman of great faith, Shirley was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church, Plains, where she was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. In recent years, Shirley was a member of St. John’s Church, East Stroudsburg, where she was active in their senior’s group. Shirley was also a member of the I.L.G.W.U., and was very active in Boy Scouts of America. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Donald J. Carter, sisters Thelma Adams, Jeanne Rivers, and Kathryn Wynder, and her faithful companion of 15 years, Buttons. Surviving are nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021, at 9:30 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. The service will be streamed live on Saints Peter & Paul Parish FACEBOOK page for those who wish to join from the safety of their homes. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains. Family and friends may call Thursday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 am at the funeral home. Those attending the visitation and/or funeral, we ask that you be brief when paying your respects, please follow the practice of social distancing, and masks are required at all times at the funeral home and church.
