Ruth Ann Purta, 87 of the Hudson section of Plains, passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 17, 2021 at the home of her daughter, Donna.

Born in Plains, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence & Helen (Stockunas) O’Malia.

Ruth was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1951, and was employed in the garment industry in the area factories. In 1975, Ruth returned to school and attended Empire Beauty School, Wilkes-Barre, earning her license in cosmetology. She owned and operate her own beauty shop in Plains until her retirement. She was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains, and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Ruth was a devoted mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis J. Purta, Jr. on January 25, 1990, her beloved granddaughter Melanie Marie Rhodes, and brothers Lawrence and Robert O’Malia.

Surviving are her daughter Donna Krumov and her husband Krasimir, Laflin, son Francis J. Purta, III and his wife Mary, Hudson, granddaughter Jill Long and her husband Jason, Larksville, grandson Brian Rhodes, Laflin, great-grandchildren Brooke and Matthew Long, and Lillian Ruth Krumov, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 10:00 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Private interment will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming. Friends and family are invited to a walk through visitation from 9:00 am until the time of Mass Saturday morning at Saints Peter & Paul Church. Due to the ongoing pandemic, restrictions have been put in place. Those attending the visitation, we ask that you be brief when paying your respects, please follow the practice of social distancing, and masks are required at all times at the church.
