Robert W. King

Robert W. King, 75 of Duryea and formerly of Hanover Township, passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, January 20, 2024 at Allied Hospice, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, with his family by his side.

Born on August 29, 1948 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late Raymond H. King and Georgiana (Seacrist) King Davis.

Bob was a graduate of Hanover Area High School, and Edinboro University, Edinboro, PA.  While attending Edinboro, Bob was a 3 year starter for the Baseball and Football teams where he was a Co-Captain on both sports his senior year.  In 1970, Edinboro won the PSAC State Football Championship and won the Lambert Bowl for supremacy of the East.

Bob was employed as a teacher in the Hanover Area School District for 32 years.  During his tenure, he was an Assistant Jr. High School Wrestling Coach, twice the Head Football Coach and for his last 13 years, was the Director of Athletics, retiring in 2004. He was involved with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association serving as Secretary of the Wyoming Valley Football Conference and sat on the District II steering committees for Football, Baseball, and Track.

 His most significant accomplishments were knowing Bob, Natalie, and Jeff were successful in their professions and being called Pop Pop by his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with the love of his life and best friend Cha-leen.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Marion Walp and her husband Kirt, and sister Marjorie Ichter.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Charlene (Schifano) King, Duryea, sons Robert King and his wife Danielle, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Jeffrey King and his wife Jill, Mountain Top, step-daughter Natalie Sadler and her husband James, Plymouth Meeting, PA, grandchildren Noah and Olivia King, Colin Bridget, Emily and Bradley (Big Guy) King, and James Joseph (J.J.) Sadler, former wife Mary Ann (Conahan) King, Wilkes-Barre, brother Ray King and his wife Barbara, Edwardsville, sister-in-law Patricia Freeman, Pittston, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.

Memorial donations may be made to Allied Hospice Inpatient Unit, 200 Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA  18702 in Bob’s memory.
