Rita P. Buzinski, 89, formerly of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, and most recently of Wesley Village’s Myers Apartments, Jenkins Twp., passed away with her loving family by her side after sustaining injuries in a fall on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Jakup and Cecelia (Hudock) Paul.

Rita was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School and formerly a long-time employee of First Eastern Bank as the supervisor of the computer center. Prior to that she was a switchboard operator at Bell Telephone.

Rita, beloved for her independent spirit and bottomless well of kindness, loved reading, bingo and maintained a vegetable garden and many plants at her previous home. She was involved with The Arc of Luzerne County, Up-and-Down Bowlers and the Friendship and Trinity Senior Clubs of All Saints Parish in Plymouth.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Walter A., a son, Walter Jr., a daughter, Mary A., as well as a sister, Wilma Marianacci and a brother, Jacob.

She is survived by son William J. and his wife Linda M. (Pershalski), of Stafford, Va.; son Gregory P. and his wife Edie A. (DeOrio), of West Pittston; son James T., of Los Angeles; daughter Barbara M. Jones and her husband Gordon W., of Lititz, Pa.; son Paul M. and his wife Jackie L. (Jenkins), of New York City; as well as granddaughter Kelly A. Norwalt and her husband Andrew P. of Severn, Md.; grandson William J. and his wife Brandy K., of Alexandria, Va.; granddaughter Dr. Krista Civiletti of Chapel Hill, N.C.; granddaughter Amy M. Tomkoski and her husband John J. of Plains; grandson Dr. Steven G. and his wife Kym (Weed), of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and grandson Ryan M. Jones of Lancaster, Pa.  She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Andrew W.W. Norwalt of Glen Burnie, Md.; Karrley T.L. Norwalt of Alexandria, Va.; and Noah Civiletti of Chapel Hill, N.C., sisters, Mary Ann Speicher, Hamburg, Mich., Veronica Tarchek, Carbondale.

She leaves behind many dear friends, foremost among them John Lelak of Plymouth, her near-constant companion the last six years as they sought out the best pot-luck suppers, high school plays and concerts, as well as movies.

The family wishes to thank the caring, compassionate staff in the intensive-care unit at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Shavertown United Methodist Church, 163 N. Pioneer Avenue, Shavertown, Pa., with the Rev. Carol Folk officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
