Mary B. Wincek, 93 of the Irishtown section of Plains Township, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, June 9, 2022 at Allied Hospice Meade Street, with her family by her side.

Born in the Hudson section of Plains on March 27, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John & Michaelina (Brazinski) Wincek.

Mary attended James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was employed as a banquet server at the Reddington Hotel, currently Gus Genetti’s, Wilkes-Barre. Most importantly, she was a wonderful housewife and homemaker to her husband and 12 children. She was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains. Mary enjoyed dancing and listening to Polka’s, her Friday night pizza with her family, cooking, and her scratch off lottery tickets.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Leonard R. Wincek on November 27, 2001, son Robert Wincek in November of 2004, grandson James Wincek in November of 2015, daughter-in-law Michele Wincek in September of 2020, sisters Genevieve Reiser, Caroline Fields, and Valerie Wincek, brothers Felix, John and Walter Wincek.

Surviving are her 11 children: Leonard and his wife Patricia, Thornhurst, Joan Rogers and her husband Leon, Tunkhannock, Ronald, Parsons, Diane Rittenhouse and her husband George, Wilkes-Barre, Denise Hockenbury and her husband Robert, Mountain Top, John and his companion Melanie Bishop, Plains, Janice Lercara and her husband Vincent, Plains, Mary Lizza and her husband James, Yatesville, Kenneth, Plains, Beverly Durk and her husband Kenneth, Parsons, and Ann Marie Wincek and her Fiancé Matthew Stelma, Jenkins Township, 25 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, many nieces and nephews and her pal Border Collie, Bubba.

Mary’s family would like to thank Dr. John Ellis and Dr. John Prater, “Her Boys”, and the nurses, aides and staff at Allied Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion given to their mother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 13, 2022 at 10:00 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. A Live Stream of the Funeral Mass will be on Saints Peter & Paul Parish FACEBOOK page. Private interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hudson at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call Monday morning from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at church. Arrangements entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to American Heart Association, 4250 Crum Mills Road, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17112, or to the SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 in Mary’s memory.
