Mary Ann O’Donnell, 73 of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 23, 2022 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born on June 21, 1949, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Daisy (Roth) Merkel, Sr.

Mary Ann was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1967 and was employed as a data processor for the Social Security Administration until her retirement. She was a member of the Miners Mills Triangle Club, and the Plains American Legion, Joseph E. Conlon, Post 558 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, James J. O’Donnell on March 16, 2017, and her brother John J. Merkel, Jr. on September 28, 2003.

Surviving are her brother Patrick Merkel and his wife Susan, Drums, nieces, nephews, numerous friends and her beloved cats, Mr. Murphy and Daisy.

Funeral services for Mary Ann will be held Monday, June 27, 2022 at 10:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with Deacon Donald Crane, officiating. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call Monday morning from 9:00 am until the time of service.
