Mary Ann “Willie” McDonough 71, of Wilkes-Barre passed away suddenly Thursday morning, November 25, 2021, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Plains Township.

Born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Gerald J. and Mary (Callahan) Williams.

Mary Ann was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School, Wilkes-Barre. She also received a Bachelor’s Degree of Education from College Misericordia, Dallas. She furthered her education by attaining a Master’s Degree from Millersville University. She was employed by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for over 35 years at the Hoyt Elementary and Kistler Elementary schools.

Mary Ann was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Miners Mills before its closure and merger with St. Dominic Church in Parsons, currently Saints Peter & Paul Parish, Plains. She enjoyed traveling and visited many interesting destinations, making new friends everywhere she went. She loved Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, the Boston Red Sox, and the New York Jets. On June 21, 1986 she married her loving husband Joseph McDonough. Mary Ann was the loving mother of her daughter Maureen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Gerald T. Williams on January 28, 1992.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 35 years Joe McDonough and her daughter and best friend Maureen McDonough, stepson Joseph McDonough, Jr., brother Thomas Williams and his wife, Peggy, Shavertown and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved with all of her heart, and by all the friends she loved and loved her in return.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705, with Father Joseph A. Kearney, officiating. A Live Stream of the Funeral Mass will be on Saints Peter & Paul Parish FACEBOOK page. Inurnment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call Wednesday afternoon at church from 12:00 pm until the time of Mass. Arrangements entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705.

In lieu of flowers the family ask for donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate, or to St. Jude Children´s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
