Margaret “Maggie” Augustaitus

Margaret “Maggie” Augustaitus, 68 of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Saturday morning, September 30, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Plains Township, PA on July 22, 1955, she was the daughter of the late David and Rita (Blakeslee) Dunsmuir.

Maggie was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1973, and a Luzerne County Community College graduate, Class of 2002. She was the Kitchen Supervisor at Wilkes University and Allied Services until her retirement.

She was a member of Firwood United Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre and was a member of the Bell Choir.

Maggie was a wonderful cook and baker, loved doing things for others, and had a contagious laugh. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy, playing cards with her brothers and sisters, and just living life. She made sure no one was alone on Thanksgiving by preparing and hosting a dinner at the church. Family was everything to Maggie and her grandson Logan was the absolute light of her life. They would bake cakes, sell them, and donate the funds to places like Ruth’s place and the Soup Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre.

 She was preceded in death by her brothers David, William, and Donald “Ducky” Dunsmuir, Sisters Marion “Sissy” Tregaskis, Ann Cease and Rita “Babe” Luse.

Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Leo P. Augustaitus, Wilkes-Barre, daughters Tara Thompson and her husband Tom, and Lori Augustaitus, Wilkes-Barre, grandson Logan Augustaitus, brothers and sisters, Joan Smith and her husband Gary, Wilkes-Barre, Jean Elick and her husband Ron, Lansdale, Shirley Baird and her husband William, Plymouth, Thomas Dunsmuir and his wife Kathy, Plains, Robert Dunsmuir and his wife Nancy, Wilkes-Barre and John Dunsmuir, Wyoming, numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Maggie will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Firwood United Methodist Church, 399 Old River Road, Wilkes-Barre, PA  18702, with Pastor Craig Gommer, officiating.  Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family.  Family and friends may call Thursday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at church.  Arrangements entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.

Memorial donation may be made to the Firwood United Methodist Church or to Ruth’s Place, 425 North Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, PA  18702 in Maggie’s memory.
