Joseph “Ranger Joe” Bealla, 76 of Jenkins Township, passed away Friday afternoon, March 3, 2023 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident.

Born in the East End section of Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Catherine Bealla.

Joe was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was a combat Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving 3 tours of duty and earning 2 Purple Hearts, while serving with the Special Forces, 101st Airborne Division. Upon his honorable discharge from active duty, Joe served with the PA 109th Field Artillery Regiment. He was employed at the Lion Brewery, Wilkes-Barre, as a mechanic, carpenter and fix-it man. Joe was also a Golden Gloves Boxer in the Middleweight Division.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and the Knights of Columbus. Joe was very active in Army and Veteran Affairs and was a Life Member of various American Legions and V.F.W.’s. He was also selected as the Parade Grand Master of various parades over the years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Suzanne M. Hazeltine on December 28, 2020, sister Susan Memory, and brother Henry Bealla.

Surviving are his daughter Lisa Bealla, Dallas, sons Joseph Bealla and his wife Linda, Wilkes-Barre, Jason Bealla, Jenkins Township, Antonio Bealla, Kingston Township, Shayne Bealla and his wife Alyssa, Plymouth Township, David Bealla, Dallas, and Shawn Bealla, Plymouth, grandchildren Joseph, Amanda, Jessica, Nina, Christian, Nadia, Brooke, Adam, Alexis, Addison, Jacob, Lucas, and Blake, great-grandchildren Madison, Isabella, Sebastian, Joseph, Dominick, and Grayson, sister Jessica Balogosh, Hazleton, nieces and nephews.

Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 9:00 am at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705, with Father Michael Kerestes, Pastor, officiating. Those attending the funeral mass, please go directly to church Wednesday morning. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army and the Plains American Legion Funeral Honors Detail. Private inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705.

Memorial donations may be made to the Veteran Association of the donor’s choice.
