Jennie A. Mitchell, 98, of the Keystone section of Plains Township, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 14, 2015 at Wesley Village, Jenkins Township with her sons at her side.

Born August 15, 1916 in Keystone, Jennie was the daughter of the late Ralph and Augustina (Marianelli) Sharratta.

Jennie was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, class of 1934, and was the valedictorian of her class. She also graduate from Bloomsburg State Teacher’s College.

Jennie was a first grade teacher for 25 years teaching first in the Plains/Laflin School District and retiring from the Wilkes-Barre School District in 1979.

She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church Laflin and the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Jennie was a loving mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her sons and granddaughter.

Preceding her in death are her husband Joseph A. Mitchell on August 30, 1979, Brother Anthony D. Sharratta in 1994 and Sister Emma Sharratta in 2001.

Surviving are her sons Bill Mitchell, at home, Wayne Mitchell and his wife Cindy, Bear Creek, granddaughter, Cristin Mitchell, State College, nephew, R. James Sharratta and his wife Barbara, Kingston, two nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 10:00 am in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive Laflin, PA 18702. The Parish Rosary Group will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary in the Church 30 minutes before the Funeral Mass. All are invited to attend Interment will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc. 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705.

Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA Of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
