Irene C. Martin

Irene C. Martin, 75 of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away suddenly Wednesday evening, May 17, 2023, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Born September 6, 1947 in the Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Edna Mae (Wiggins) Hanratty.

She was a graduate of Cardinal Spellman High School, Bronx, NY, and attended Hunter College.  She was employed as an executive assistant at Bohlin Cywinski Jackson of Wilkes-Barre for 34 years, until her retirement.

A woman of great faith, she was a devoted member of Saints Peter & Paul Parish, Plains, and was active helping with their food pantry, the church women’s society, and sang in the church choir.  Irene lived a life of service to others and selflessly gave so much of herself to help others. She would volunteer at Fork Over Love, The American Red Cross, St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, and the Osterhout Free Library, where she served as President of the Friends of Osterhout Free Library.  She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Edna Mae McGuire.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Frank P. Martin, Wilkes-Barre, daughters Maureen Radzwilka and her husband Dr. Joseph Radzwilka, Exeter, Erin Kosek and her husband Robert, Pittston Township, grandchildren Sara Radzwilka and her fiancé Daniel Doxbeck, Sean Radzwilka, Maura Kosek, and Ryan Kosek, sister Theresa Walsh, Evans, Georgia, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held ­­­­­Monday, May 22, 2023 at 9:30 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA  18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating.  A live stream of the Funeral Mass will be on Saints Peter & Paul Parish FACEBOOK page.  Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains.  Family and friends may call Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to Osterhout Free Library, Attn: Michelle Riley, 71 S. Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA  18701 or Saints Peter & Paul Church Food Pantry, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA  18705 in Irene’s name.
