Hannah R. Lazarus, 77 of the Hudson section of Plains, Twp., passed away Thursday afternoon, June 4, 2015, at River Run Nursing Home, Kingston, PA.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Frank S. and Florence E. (Lavelle) Banks.

Hannah was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, class of 1956 and was employed by the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital as an administrative secretary for 25 years, the Wilkes-Barre Area School District Lunch Program and last as a dispensing optician for 18 years.

She was a member of St. Benedict’s Parish, Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, the Irem Shrine Legion Ladies, serving as president for two years, the Plains American Legion, Post 558 Ladies Auxiliary, the Wilkes-Barre Junior Women’s Club, a volunteer for the Wyoming Valley Blind Association, a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Bank, and a volunteer for the Keystone Games. Hannah was also an organ donor.

Hannah was devoted to her family and her home was always open to her many friends, family and of course, her daughter’s friends. She was happiest when she was surrounded by conversation and laughter. She took immense pride in her granddaughters and never missed a school or sporting event they were participating in. They were the center of her world, she loved them whole-heartedly and the feeling was mutual. Hannah and Allison often said that everything was better at Nana’s house, and they were right! She will be missed.

She and her husband Gene celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on May 6, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her infant son Eugene R. Lazarus III, in 1971.

Surviving are her husband Eugene (Gene) Lazarus, Hudson, daughter Jocelyn Chocallo and her husband Michael, Wilkes-Barre, granddaughters Hannah Gene and Allison Elizabeth Chocallo, sister Sharon M. Kutney, Mountain Top, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Hannah will be held Monday, June 8, 2015 at 9:30 am from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Benedict’s Parish/St. Dominic’s Church, 155 Austin Avenue Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705, with Father Joseph A. Kearney, Pastor, officiating. Private interment will be held in Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover, PA. Friends and family may call Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
