Gavin June 7, 1924 - June 28, 2018 Service Date: July 2, 2018 Funeral Home Corcoran Funeral Home Inc Cemetery Sacred Heart Cemetery Church Saints Peter and Paul Church Francis P. Gavin, 94 of Plains Township, passed away Friday morning, June 29, 2018. Born in Plains, he was the son of the late James and Nora (Gerrity) Gavin. Francis was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, and was an Army Veteran of World War II. Francis served in the Pacific Theatre with the 1st Calvary Division until the end of the war. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army in December of 1945 as a sergeant, he was employed at PPL as a Lineman until his retirement in 1985. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church, Plains, until its closure and merger with Saints Peter & Paul Church. He was a member of the Plains American Legion, Joseph E. Conlon, Post 558 and was a member of its Military Funeral Honors Detail, was currently the General Manager of the Plains American Legion Baseball Team, a position he has held for many years, was co-founder, a member, and inductee of the Plains Sports Hall of Fame and a member of the Pennsylvania State American Legion Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the 1st Calvary Division Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years the former Anne F. Dunsmuir in 1985, brothers James and John Gavin, and Sister Rosemary Gavin-Doran. Surviving are his daughters Noreen Baloga and her husband John, Plains, and Margaret Gavin, with whom he resided, 3 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held Monday, July 2, 2018 at 9:30 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Interment with Military Honors accorded by the United States Army and the Plains American Legion will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains. Family and friends may call Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
