Thompson, 96 of Dallas, and formerly of Wallington, New Jersey and Philadelphia, passed away Thursday morning, April 28, 2016 at the Mercy Center, Dallas. Born in Wallington, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Reno) Shagen. Ellie was a graduate of East Rutherford High School, East Rutherford, New Jersey and attended Temple University, Philadelphia. She was employed as an operator and clerk by Whitehead Metal of Philadelphia and for the U.S. Navy in the clerical department in Washington D.C. Ellie loved Marshmallow Peeps, which would be used to encourage her to eat her dinner. She loved dearly and relied on her care takers, her Granddaughters, Jennifer Hessman and her husband Joe, Jacqueline Hardwick, and Allison Hardwick, who have been there since day one. They could always be counted on to do anything and everything for their grandparents, Ellie and Jack. She was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas, and its Altar and Rosary Society, and The Mercy Center Auxiliary where she volunteered. She was preceded in death by her husband John “Jack” Thompson on February 26, 2009, her brother Edward Shagen, and her sisters Evelyn Wason and Eugenia Rodden Waninger. Surviving are her daughters Melleray Thompson and Marci Hardwick, her son John Thompson, Jr., all of Dallas, 7 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ellie and Jack’s family would like to thank their parent’s neighbors for their wonderful friendship and love they showed them through the years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 2, 2016 at 10:00 am at Gate of Heaven Church, 42 Machell Avenue Dallas, PA 18612 with Father Daniel A. Toomey, Pastor, officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas, PA. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer´s Association of Northeastern PA, or to American Diabetes Association, both of 63 North Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.Eleanor S.
