Catherine M. Scarantino

Catherine M. Scarantino, 83 of Dunmore, PA, passed away Monday morning, January 22, 2024 at Allied Hospice Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Born on July 23, 1940 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Saverio “Sam” and Catherine (Torch) Zaffino, Sr.

Catherine attended Dunmore schools, worked as a seamstress in the area garment factories, and was a homemaker most of her life.

Catherine had many loves in her life, none of which compared to the love she had for her family.  She mastered the game of bingo and ensured she had her seat reserved for most Turning Stone and Atlantic City bus trips.  She enjoyed watching her soap operas, anything with elephants and soaking in the rays of sun on her back deck.  She was fun, loving and always up for an adventure, especially if it ended with a banana split.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Steven C. Scarantino on February 10, 2023, and her sister Rosalie Zaffino.

Surviving are her daughter Catherine Corcoran and her husband Brian, Plains, sons Steven Scarantino and his wife Alisa, and Jason Scarantino and his wife Nichole, all of Dunmore, grandchildren Steven, Brenden, Nicholas, Cheryl, Brett, Selena, and Sebastian, brother Sam Zaffino, Jr. and his wife Sue, Moscow, and sister Caroline Loungo, Dunmore, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Catherine’s Life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.
