Barry J. Schiel, Sr.

Barry J. Schiel, Sr., 77 of Bear Creek Twp., passed away Thursday evening, March 14, 2024 at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre, PA, with his family by his side.

Born on May 5, 1946 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late Carl D. and Lola M. (Jenkins) Schiel.

Barry attended James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was employed as a diesel mechanic for Addy Asphalt and later at Popple Construction, retiring after 44 years.  He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 542.

Barry was an avid hunter, fisherman, loved to go camping at Slumber Valley Campground and taking rides to Lopez with his grandson D.J.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Sally (Zimmerman) Schiel on September 17, 2001, infant grandson Paul John Schiel, brothers Carl and Walter “Buddy” Schiel.

Surviving are his children Barry “B.J.” Schiel, Jr., and his wife Tami, White Haven, Daniel Schiel and his wife Maura, Miners Mills, and Ami Price and her husband Dave, Bear Creek Township, grandchildren Barry, Brooke, and Becky Schiel, David “D.J.” Price, III, Dana, Sara, and Jason Price, great-granddaughter Macey Schiel, brother David Schiel, Nuangola, sisters Sharon McGowan and her husband Tom, Bear Creek Township, Lori Cienciva and her husband Peter, Harding, and Pam Russell, and her husband Roy, Dayton, WA, numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Barry will be held Monday, March 18, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705, with Pastor Jack Griffiths, officiating.  Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.  Family and friends may call Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
