Arlene A. Ruane

August 26, 2023

Arlene A. Ruane, 86 of Brooks Estates, Jenkins Township, passed away Saturday morning, August 26, 2023 at Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Scranton, PA.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on February 21, 1937, she was the daughter of the late George and Rose (Buk) Joseph.

Arlene was a National Honor Society recipient and graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1955.  She was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother.  She also worked as a school bus driver for children with disabilities, a perfect fit for her compassionate and caring heart.  Arlene was a member of St. Anthony/St. George Maronite Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Arlene’s greatest joy in life was found spending time with her family and relaxing at her home away from home in Laceyville with her husband and sister’s family.  Arlene loved to travel, whether that was visiting family in Ohio or exploring the beauty of the United States, she was always up for an adventure. She was an avid reader, loved to play the piano, enjoyed exploring nature, and adored all animals especially their cat Ouzzi.   Christmas was Arlene’s favorite time of year, always making the holiday special for everyone.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Joseph T. Ruane, Jenkins Twp., three sons: John Ruane and his fiancé Nancy, Wilkes-Barre, PA, Michael Ruane and his wife Cindy, Exeter, PA, and Dr. Joseph J. Ruane and his wife Karen, Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren (David, Megan, Chelsea, Steven and Scott Ruane); great-grandchildren (Aleigha Ruane, Lux Sweeley, and Ezra Ruane), sister Joan Ascani, Exeter, PA, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at St. Anthony/St. George Maronite Catholic Church, 315 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, PA.   Funeral Mass will follow visitation, starting at 10:00 am with Father Adib Salameh, Priest, officiating.  Private inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.  Arrangements entrusted to the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705

The family request that flowers be omitted and Memorial Donations may be made to St. Anthony/St. George Maronite Catholic Church in Arlene’s memory.
