Hugh Boyle, Jr.

June 12, 2024

The man, the myth, the legend…thus is the life of Hugh Boyle, Jr.

Hugh passed away on June 12, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born January 27, 1954 in the East End Section of Wilkes-Barre to Florence (Lockavich) Boyle of Wilkes-Barre and the late Hugh Boyle, Sr.

He was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1971.  He completed Electrical Apprentice School and became a very hard working electrician for Local#163.  Most of his “electrical life” he was associated with Apollo Electric. He was driven to provide for his family.  He resided in Plains and was very proud of his home and family.

Hugh will be remembered as an extremely hard worker, efficient teacher, stock market “specialist”, Neil Diamond connoisseur, great husband, father, grandfather son and brother.

Hugh was preceded in death by his father Hugh Sr., sisters Karen Cook and Theresa Jones, mother and father-in-law Grace and Michael Kozich, daughter-in-law Courtney Boyle, and his granddaughter and best buddy in the whole world Brielle Boyle.

Hugh will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years, Mary Beth, his children Alisa Scarantino and her husband Steve, Dunmore, Lauren Gardjulis, and her husband Joe, Bear Creek, Ryan Boyle, Mountain Top, Ross Boyle and his wife Kristen, Plains, grandsons Ryan, Brenden, Nicholas and Mason. Also, his mother Florence, brothers Michael Boyle and his wife Jackie, Wilkes-Barre, Patrick Boyle and his wife Sandy, Dallas, sister Ellen Merritt and her husband Rudy, Cumming, GA, brother-in-law Jim Jones, Wilkes-Barre, brother-in law Michael Kozich and sister-in-law Gail, Mountain Top, several nieces and nephews.

We extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. David Greenwald whose knowledge and patience afforded us more time with Hugh; his efficient Medical Oncology office staff, Dr. Peters and staff at NROC and the nurses on the 2nd floor infusion center at Commonwealth Health.  Hugh always sang their praises.  A special thanks goes to my sister-in-law Sandy Boyle, who was so very patiently our life line of knowledge.

Funeral Services for Hugh will be held Friday, July 5, 2024 at 12:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.  Family and friends may call Friday morning from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm.  Per Hugh’s request, a “Party” or Celebration of Life will be held following the service at 3:00 p.m. at the Polish American Veterans Pavilion “PAV”2 South Oak Street, Plains, PA  18705. All friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate Hugh’s life!

“A good solider knows when to rest.”
