Florence A. Stella

Florence A. Stella, 92 of the Fernbrook section of Dallas Township, passed away Monday morning, April 29, 2024 at the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas, PA.

Born on September 14, 1931 in Luzerne, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen M. (Nawratowicz) Tondora.

Florence was a graduate of Dallas Township High School, Class of 1949, and was employed as a seamstress in the garment industry for 25 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of St. Therese’s Church, Shavertown, and its Altar and Rosary Society, a Life Member of Shavertown Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, The I.L.G.W.U., and the Back Mountain Seniors Citizens Association.  After retirement, Florence was a volunteer usher at the F.M. Kirby Center, Wilkes-Barre, and the Music Box Dinner Playhouse, Swoyersville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, August A. “Litzie” Stella on July 2, 1991, granddaughter Alicia Nicole LaNunziata, and her brother Francis Tondora.

Surviving are her daughters Brenda DeSoo, Center Moreland, and Catherine LaNunziata, Wilmington, NC, grandchildren Nicholas Adam LaNunziata, Wilmington, NC, David DeSoo and his wife Sarah, Center Moreland, Laura DeSoo and Brian Burke, Phoenixville, PA, and Jillian Knowles and her husband Adam, Angiers, NC, great-grandchildren Raegan and Calvin Knowles, brothers Albert Tondora and his wife Irene, Forty Fort, and Lt. Commander Joseph Tondora, (U.S. Navy, Ret.) Ledyard, CT., nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 at 9:30 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Therese’s Church, 64 Davis Street, Shavertown, PA  18708, with Father Joseph Pisaneschi, Pastor, officiating. Inurnment will be held in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas, at a later date.  Family and friends may call Friday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 am at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children´s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
