William R. Fries, 92 of Westminster, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at The Gardens at East Mountain, Plains, PA.

Born in Duryea, he was the son of the late William and Myrtle (Scott) Fries.

Bill was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School, and was a Navy Veteran of World War II attaining the rank of Seaman 1st Class, serving aboard the U.S.S. Richmond. He was employed as a foreman at Renda, Nenna, and Frain of Clifton, New Jersey until his retirement. He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin. He and his wife the former Catherine Rodeghiero celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on August 26, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Bernice, Jackie, and Leona, and his brother Jack.

Surviving in addition to his wife Catherine are his brother Harold and his wife Rose, Freeville, NY, 15 nieces, 14 nephews, 25 great-nieces, 16 great-nephews, and 4 great-great-nephews.

Funeral will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 9:30 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin, PA 18702, with Father James J. Walsh, J.C.L., Pastor, officiating. The Parish Rosary Group will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary in the Church 30 minutes before the Mass. All are invited to attend. Interment with Military Honors accorded by the United States Navy will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming.

Family and friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Maria Goretti Church in Bill’s memory.
