William R. Bempkins, 67, of Forty Fort, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at his home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Verdini) Bempkins.

Bill was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High, Class of 1973, and was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his actions in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Bill was also a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard 109th Field Artillery, and the United States Army Reserve, retiring in 2010 after 32 years of service attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was employed as a maintenance specialist with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Bill was also employed with his late father at Parke King Construction and was former owner of Parke Construction and Elmcrest Auto.

He was a member of the Black Diamond American Legion, Kingston Post 395 for 31 years, The Elks Club of Wilkes-Barre # 109 and a senior member of IZAAK Walton Farm, Inc.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents are his wife Joyce (Unger) Bempkins on May 22, 2019 and his brother Jay Bempkins on February 16, 2006.

Surviving are his sisters Lisa Herchenroder and her husband Bruce, Niskayuna, N.Y., and Gina Bempkins, Kingston, sister-in-law Sharon Houseal and her husband Steve, nieces Shaina Rae and her husband Joseph McDaniels, Laura Strauss and her husband Kevin, Valerie Kramer and her husband Ian, and Allison Waite and her husband Thomas.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705. Private inurnment with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call Friday morning, April 1, 2022 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the funeral home.
