For 42 years, William Arthur Shultz served as a law enforcement officer. He battled the war on drugs, drunk driving, child abuse, and all types of crimes. He performed his job with integrity and spent countless hours serving the community. The hardest battle he had to fight was cancer. He fought long and hard and continued to perform his job with the same amount of dedication. Chief Shultz lost his battle on August 17, 2016 at the age of 61.

He became a law enforcement officer at the age of 18 in Plymouth Township, working his way up the ranks to become one of the youngest Chiefs of Police in Luzerne County and the youngest President of the Luzerne County Chiefs of Police Association at the time.

He became a member of the Nanticoke Police Department in 1990 and was promoted to chief in 2012 after the loss of his dear friend and colleague, Chief James Cheshinski. With a heavy heart, he accepted the position. His greatest love was being a detective and he remained hands on actively solving cases.

Bill was a humble man who never looked for recognition or praise. He has so many accomplishments too numerous to mention.

He was a graduate of Greater Nanticoke Area High School. He attained Act 120 Certification. He was a lifetime member of the Luzerne County Chiefs of Police Association, Fraternal Order of Police, and initial member of the Mid Valley Drug Task Force. He attended Luzerne County Community College, Marywood College and Lackawanna Junior College.

He was a D.A.R.E. instructor, firearms instructor, certified in evidence collection, and certified as a criminal investigator with specialized training in child abuse and elderly abuse cases. He sat on many advisory boards, panels, and taskforces.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge 332 and also belonged to the Hazelton Corvette Club as he loved cars. Bill loved to golf with his son and frequented Blue Ridge Golf Course. Bill loved life.

He is a hero to his family and will be greatly missed. A huge void not only looms in law enforcement but in the hearts of his family and friends. No one can ever fill his shoes.

He is survived by his High School Sweetheart and Wife, Anne Marie (Kaikowski), Son William Anthony, and his FiancĂ©e, April, Grandchildren, Mason and London, Brother, Ernest, Nephews, Weslee and Thomas and family, Mother-in-law, Geraldine and Sister-in-law, Geri Anne. Bill’s companion was his dog , Baxter.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, William and Priscilla Shultz, Sister-in-law, Donna, and Nephew Nicholas and his daughter, Camryn and Father-in-law, Anthony Kaikowski.

At Bill’s request, private services were held at the Corcoran funeral Home, Inc. 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA, with Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Charitable donations in Bills memory can be made to the Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center, 187 S. Hanover St. Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 or to the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Details on the V Foundation will be available at his Memorial Service that is being held by The city of Nanticoke at the Greater Nanticoke Area High School auditorium on Friday, August 26, from 4 to 6 PM. Doors will open at 3:30 PM.
