November 12, 2023

Thomas H. Major, 73 of Plains Township, passed away Sunday evening, November 12, 2023 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains, PA, with his family by his side.

Born in the Keystone section of Plains, he was the son of the late Howard Major and the late Lillian V. Answini.

Tom was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Plains, Class of 1968, was an Air Force Veteran, serving in 1970, and was employed at Addy Asphalt, Keystone.   He was a member of Saint Maria Goretti Church, Laflin.

Tom was a loyal and dedicated member of the Plains Lions Club since 1977.  He served as club President from 1988-1989, was the Recording Secretary of the club for many years and also served as District Secretary of Lions Clubs International, District 14-W.  He was devoted to his club and the residents of Plains and could always be found fundraising by selling tickets or spreading information about Lionism.  For his dedication and leadership, he was awarded the Pennsylvania Council of Governors Award, The Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest award in Lionism, most recently Lions of Pennsylvania Fellowship Award and Meritorious Support to the Lions of Pennsylvania Foundation for 2023.

Tom was larger than life in both appearance, personality and sheer volume. He was a friend to many and always greeted everyone with open arms and a loud, boisterous salutation. He was always ready with a witty story and punchline. Tom knew every person that frequented any Plains Twp. establishment because of his love of spending time socializing at local restaurants. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye, he loved visiting Disney World with his family.
