Olshemski, 89 of the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away, Friday evening, August 25, 2017 at the inpatient unit of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA. Born in the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Yencha) Check. Theresa attended Sacred Heart School, and was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, class of 1946. She was employed at Sacred Heart School, North End, where she ran the cafeteria for many years. Theresa was a lifelong and proud member of Sacred Heart Slovak Church, North End, until its closure and merger, currently St. Andre Bessette Parish, North Wilkes-Barre. She was Past President of the PTA and President of the Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Church, a member of The Young At Heart Club at St. Andre Bessette Church, and currently the President of Branch 122 of the Ladies of Pennsylvania Slovak Catholic Union (LPSCU). She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Olshemski on April 12, 1984; brothers Bernie, Joseph, Andrew, Edward, and George Check; sisters Anna Castner, Rita Kearney, Bernadine Hutz, and Thelma and Mary Check. Surviving are her son Ron Olshemski and his wife Carol, Kingston, daughter Teresa Crossin and her husband Don, Plains, grandchildren Kelsey and Ryan Crossin, brother Thomas “Butchie” Check and his wife Linda, Allentown; brothers-in-law Carl Kearney and Basil Castner, and sister-in-law Florence Check; many nieces and nephews. Theresa’s family would like to offer their deep appreciation to the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their wonderful care of Theresa. Funeral will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 9:15 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Corpus Christi Parish, Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston, PA 18643, with Monsignor John Sempa, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas. Family and friends may call Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
