Master Sgt. Stanley J. Janis, Jr., 75 of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, April 20, 2017 at Mountain Top Healthcare Center, after a long illness.

Stanley was born in Wilkes-Barre, the son of the late Stanley and Anna (Gozikowski) Janis, Sr.

He was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1959. Shortly after graduation, Stanley joined the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania, serving with the SVC Battery 1st Battalion, 109th Field Artillery, Wilkes-Barre. Stanley served for 38 years, from March 7, 1960 until his retirement on June 25, 1998, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant, E8. After his retirement, Stanley was employed by Standard Parking, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport for 15 years before finally retiring.

He was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains.

He was preceded in death by his son Stephen Janis and his sister-in-law Patricia Bachman.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Dolores Zdanowicz, daughter Diane Ebert and her husband Bruce, Plains, sister-in-law, Sister Immacule, O.S.F., Reading.

A special thank you is extended to the nurses and staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Mountain Top Health Care and Rehabilitation Center for their kind and compassionate care of Stanley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 at 10:00 am in Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705, with Father John C. Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held in the parish cemetery, Plains. Friends and family may call from 9:00 to 10:00 am at church Monday morning. Arrangements by the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
