Rosemary “Cookie” McCarthy, 66 of the Hilldale section of Plains, Twp., passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at her home of complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

Born in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Bajerski) Serafin.

Rosemary attended SS. Peter & Paul grade school, Plains, was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1965, and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1968.  She was employed for 40 years as a Registered Nurse in obstetrics and later Case Management at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Cookie was a longtime member of St. Dominic’s Church, Parsons, currently St. Benedict’s Parish.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. John Prater, Dr. Scott Friedenberg, The ALS Clinic Team at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

Surviving are her husband of 45 years, John McCarthy, Hilldale, sons Christopher and his wife Kyle, Fairfield, CT, and Brian and his wife Kim, Mechanicsburg, PA, grandsons Colin, Gavin, and Dylan; brothers Joseph Serafin and his wife Ellen, Colorado Springs, CO, Edward Serafin and his wife Bridget, Wilkes-Barre, sisters Dorothy Yelland and her husband Thomas, Wilkes-Barre, and Kathleen Serafin, Tannersville, PA, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 am from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street  Plains, PA  18705 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Benedict’s Parish/St. Dominic’s Church  155 Austin Avenue Wilkes-Barre, PA, with Father Joseph A. Kearney, Pastor, officiating.  Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp.  Friends may call Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
