Robert James McCartney, 81 of Bear Creek Township PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, surrounded by his family. Born December 17, 1934 in Kistler, PA he was the son of the late William & Ella (Carl) McCartney of Kistler. He was a graduate of Captain Jack High School, class of 1954, Mount Union, PA. He served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959 and after an honorable discharge, resumed his position as a deliveryman at Buckeye Pipeline, Suscon, PA for 42 years, retiring in 1997. Bob enjoyed his pet poodle, Jo Jo, as well as his passion for feeding wild birds, hunting, fishing, and time with his family at their cabin in Springfield Twp., PA. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents is his brother Thomas McCartney. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Velma (Ordanoff) McCartney of Bear Creek Twp., Daughter Jenny Penn & her husband Ron of Jenkins Twp., Daughter Dayna McCartney of Laurel Run, Son Shawn McCartney and his wife Kristen of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, son Bobby Jim (B.J.) McCartney and his wife Beth of Mountain Top. Grandchildren Brianne Thubbron & her husband William of Pittston, Ronny Penn & his wife Jade of San Francisco, CA, Christy Penn of Duryea, Joseph Knouse, of Kingston, Todd Knouse & his wife April of Plains, Megan Panaway of Parsons. 1 Great-granddaughter, and 1 Great-grandson, Sisters Jean Lanty of Shade Gap, PA and Sandy Drake of Shirleysburg, PA, brothers Wayne and Michael McCartney of Honey Grove, PA. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 5:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc. 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705 with Pastor Andrew Jerome of Parsons Primitive Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be held at the convince of the family. Friends may call Tuesday from 3:00-5:00pm at the funeral home.
