Obituaries » Rita M. Lewis June 5, 2014 Rita M. Lewis, 99 of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday evening, June 5, 2014 at The Mercy Center, Dallas, PA. Born on March 4, 1915 in the East End section of Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late William and Katie (McGroarty) Crawley. She was a graduate of James M. Coughlin H.S., Class of 1933, and was employed by Percy Brown & Co. and for Leslie Fay, retiring in 1978. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, Wilkes-Barre, until its merger, and a current member of St. Benedict’s Parish, Wilkes-Barre, the I.L.G.W.U, Local 249 & 327; the A.A.R.P; the State Retirees, and the reunion committee of the Coughlin Class of 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband James (Blaine) Lewis in 1989, daughter Catherine Ann Phillips in 2008; grandson Matthew Phillips, sisters Mary Thamarus, Margaret Foreman, and Catherine McDonnell. Surviving are her grandchildren, Mark, Molly and Maureen Phillips, Ormond Beach, Florida, numerous nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly and were a constant part of her life. Funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:30 am from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Benedict’s Parish, St. Dominic’s Church 155 Austin Avenue Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705, with Father Joseph A. Kearney, pastor, officiating . Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains. Friends may call Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
