Paul Whitemen

June 5, 2024

Paul Whitemen, a longtime Valley resident and businessman, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024, at the age of 77 at Allied Services Hospice, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Legnica, Poland on July 2, 1946, he was the son of the late Louis and Rachel (Rozen) Weitzman.

Paul immigrated to the United States at the age of 13, settling with his family in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Paul was a horse jockey by trade, a passion he pursued with great enthusiasm. The thrill of the race and the bond with his horses brought him immense joy and fulfillment. His love for billiards was equally strong; he spent many hours perfecting his game and enjoyed the camaraderie and friendly competition it brought.

Paul’s legacy is one of an indomitable spirit. His easy smile and generous nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In honoring his life, his family and friends find solace in the many memories they shared with him and the lasting impact he made on their lives. Paul was a character who touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

In addition to his beloved parents, Louis and Rachel, he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas, and his sister Rosalind Aboody. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

He is survived by his children: Cathy Whitemen, Paul Whitemen Jr., Greg Whitemen, David Whitemen, Sam Whitemen, Ben Whitemen, and Rachel Whitemen. He also had several grandchildren: Arieanna Cortez, Leonel Olguin, Aleena Solis, Zachary Whitemen, and Ava Whitemen. As well as two great grandchildren: Karder Gallegos and Kyleah Gallegos.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and deepest sympathy to their dear friend Mary Parada for her unwavering love and support during this difficult time.

Funeral Services for Paul will be held Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 4:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.  Family and friends may call Sunday afternoon from 2:00 pm until the time of services at the funeral home.
