Nello Augustine, Jr.

Nello Augustine, Jr., 80 of Plains Township, PA, passed away Sunday evening, September 15, 2024 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born on March 11, 1944 in the Hudson section of Plains, he was the son of the late Nello and Violet (Ercolani) Augustine, Sr.

Nello was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1961, Wilkes College, Class of 1965, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and he furthered his education, earning his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967.

Nello began his career in the mental health care field in 1967 at Family Service Association, Wilkes-Barre.  In 1969 he joined the Luzerne/Wyoming County Mental Health Center, #1, as a social worker and counselor while the organization was in its infancy.  Later renamed Community Counseling, Nello remained with the service for over 40 years, retiring as Chief Operating Officer.

Nello was a lifelong and devoted member of Christian Apostolic Church, Plains, where he also served as a Trustee.  He was an avid golfer and a former soccer coach for Plains Soccer Association in their early years of competition.

He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Augustine.

Surviving are his sons Michael Augustine and Ann Marie Augustine, Exeter, Christopher Augustine and his wife Kimberly, and Brian Augustine and his wife Colleen, all of Jenkins Twp., grandchildren Kathryn, Jonathan, Samuel, Abigail, Amelie, and Sylvia Augustine, brother David Augustine and his wife Donna, Jenkins Twp., sister Julie Frateschi and her husband John, Syracuse, New York, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Nello will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 11:00 am at Christian Apostolic Church, 757 North Main Street, Plains, PA  18705, with Brother David Fischi, officiating.  Those attending the funeral services, please go directly to church Thursday morning.  Interment will be held in Memorial Shrine Burial Park, Carverton section of Wyoming.  Family and friends may call Wednesday evening, September 18, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.
