Mildred E. Richards, 95, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Birchwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Nanticoke, where she had been a guest for several months.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Harry B. and Gwendolyn (McGinn) Miller.

Mildred was a 1939 graduate of E. L. Meyers High School and was a member of Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church, formerly Westminster Presbyterian on Hanover St. Wilkes-Barre. Mildred was an active Church member, serving as an Ordained Elder and a Deacon. She was a past president of the Webster Class, the Lydia Group and served as a Youth Fellowship advisor as well as chairing numerous committees in the church.

She was a long time employee of Pomeroys/Bon Ton, serving as a sales manager in both the Wilkes-Barre and Wyoming stores. Following her retirement, she served as the Treasurer of the Bon Ton credit union. Prior employment included positions as a bookkeeper with local small businesses as well as an auditor with the Glen Alden Coal Company. Never one to be idle, she volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip E. Richards, brother Harry B. Miller and loving son-in-law Michael J. Chesney.

Surviving are her son, Phillip E. Richards and his wife, Sally, Mountain Top and daughter, Nancy E. Chesney, Glen Lyon, with whom she resided. Also surviving are granddaughters, Lisa Vitelli, Karen Chodash and Amy Franzini and eight great grandchildren; niece and nephews.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Birchwood Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral Services for Mildred will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with Rev. Dr. Frank Deming, officiating. Entombment will be held in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and Memorial Donations may be made to the Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church, 2 Lockhart Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 in Mildred’s memory.
