Mary Frances O’Brien, 77 of the East End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday afternoon, April 15, 2016 at the inpatient unit of Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in East End on August 26, 1938, she was the daughter of the late James P. and Mary H. (O’Donnell) O’Brien.

She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, class of 1956. She spent most of her working career in the Luzerne County Register of Wills office. Mary Frances was a resident of East End all of her life until 2014 when she moved into St. Luke’s Villa, Wilkes-Barre. She enjoyed traveling, bingo, and going out to dinner with friends. She was a former member of Holy Savior Church, Wilkes-Barre and presently a member of St. Andre’ Bessette Parish, Wilkes-Barre.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Michael in 1971.

Surviving are her brothers James O’Brien and his wife Cheri, Dallas, and Patrick O’Brien and his wife Diane, Shavertown, nephew Christopher, nieces Katie, Kara, and Jill, as well as great nephews and great niece.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Preferred Home Health and St. Luke’s Villa for all the care and kindness shown to Mary Frances. They would also like to thank her neighbors Debbie and Joe Polacheck for all they did over the years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 20 at 10:30 AM in St. Andre Bessette Catholic Church, 668 North Main St. Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705. Internment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp., PA.

Family and friends may call Wednesday, April 20 from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass at St. Andre Bessette Catholic Church, 668 North Main St. Wilkes-Barre, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Medical Oncology Assistance Fund 382 Pierce St., Kingston, PA 18704.
