Martha (Benish) Bykowski, 86 of the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 20, 2015, at Little Flower Manor Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre, where she was a resident for the past 6 months.

Martha was born in Plains on March 13, 1928, daughter of the late Jacob & Mary (Mushinsky) Benish.

She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Slovak School, North End section of Wilkes-Barre, and Sacred Heart High School, Plains. She was employed for Gort Girls in the Hudson section of Plains and for The Grand Finale, Wilkes-Barre, where she met and made lasting friendships.

Martha was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, St. Mary’s Church of the Immaculate Conception, Wilkes-Barre and was a former member of St. Joseph’s Slovak Church, Hillside, and a member of the church choir.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband Edward Bykowski, brothers Rev. James Benish, O.F.M. Conv., Michael, Jacob, and William Benish, sisters Anna Benish and Margaret Welsko.

Surviving are her son Edward Bykowski and his Fiancée Lisa Pressler, Wilkes-Barre, sisters Agnes Munley, Sugar Notch, and Magdalen Benish, Plains, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and the best sister-in-law and care giver anyone can ask for, Eileen Bykowski, Wilkes-Barre.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Kish, the nurses, nuns and staff of Little Flower Manor for their wonderful care of Martha.

Funeral will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 8:45 am from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish, St. Mary’s Church of the Immaculate Conception, 134 South Washington Street Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dorchester Drive Dallas, PA.

Friends may call Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
