A generation has now come to a close and with a great deal of love and sadness, our mom, Loretta Marion Skaff, 94 of Plains Township, Dolly, as she has been affectionately known since birth, fell asleep in the Lord, Wednesday morning, January 5, 2022 at Allied Services Hospice, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Plains, she was the daughter of the late Joseph & Rhoda (Faust) Moses, Theil Akkar, Lebanon, who migrated to the U.S. in the late 1800’s. The family was one of the original charter members of St. Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre. Dolly loved the church and never missed a day of prayer.

Dolly had many enduring qualities that she gave openly to everyone. Family, friends, and coworkers will remember her as a dedicated and hard worker, a caring individual who also was a caregiver to various family and friends during her lifetime. While she had many qualities, too numerous to mention she most notably had a quick wit, a tender heart, and a beautiful singing voice which was only heard at home while doing chores. Loretta was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, and was employed as a seamstress, prep cook and server and lastly in the housekeeping department at the United Penn Bank Building, Wilkes-Barre, for 25 years until her retirement.

Her husband of 36 years, Wadih George Skaff, (Misthaya, Syria) fell asleep in the Lord July 14, 1992. She now celebrates life eternal with her siblings Joseph Moses, Jr., Abraham Moses, Victoria Azain, Helen Biniek, Elias Moses, Emily Achey, Elizabeth Moses, Sadie Barkowitz, Rose Lasiewicki, George Moses, Albert Moses, and James Moses and departed nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her daughter Freida Skaff, who resides at home with her grand puppies Bailey and Jackson, sons David Skaff and his wife Deborah, and grand puppy Koko, Lancaster, and George Skaff, Pittston. Extended family nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Requiem Funeral Liturgy will be held Monday, January 10, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church, 905 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702, with Very Rev. Father George Alberts, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at church, Monday morning. Those attending the viewing and/or Funeral Liturgy, the family asks that your wear facemasks regardless of vaccination status.
