On the morning of November 29, 2017, Katherine Florio Vorona, 62 of Virginia Beach, VA, died at home, with her husband and daughters at her bedside. She left the way she did everything, with love and grace.

Katherine, or Kathy, as her friends and kin knew her, was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to John and Olga (Yateshin) Florio of Plains, PA. She grew up nearby, in Milford, until moving with her family to Plains, Pennsylvania. Kathy was a graduate of Bishop Hoban High School, Class of 1973. After graduation, she trained at the Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing and practiced as a registered nurse across the United States – in Pennsylvania, Hawaii, Michigan, Virginia, and North Carolina. Kathy was a creative force, especially gifted as a watercolorist, gardener, and handywoman.

Kathy brought warmth to so many lives, and will be remembered dearly, particularly by her husband, Robert Daniel Vorona; her daughters, Rachel Vorona Cote and her husband Paul, Laura Katherine Vorona, and her fiancée Nicholas Selle, and Sarah Jean Vorona; her father and mother, John and Olga Florio; her brothers Michael Florio and his wife Jill, and Richard Esser and his wife Ann; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Esther Sue Vorona.

Funeral Services for Kathy will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705. Private interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains. Family and friends may call Saturday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Samaritan House(www.samaritanhouseva.org) or the charity of the donor’s choice.
