Joseph Stec, 90 of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday afternoon, March 19, 2021 at his home.

Born March 23, 1930 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Matthew and Anna (Shot) Stec.

Joe was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1951, and was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Upon his Honorable Discharge from active duty, Joe was employed as a line boss at Acme Bakery, and last at Carter Footwear until his retirement.

He was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains, and volunteered at the church’s food pantry.

He was preceded in death by his wife the former Marie Zalewski on March 16, 1983, his sisters Mary Dombeck, Ann Savitski, and Catherine Stec, and his brothers John and Michael Stec.

Surviving are his daughters Ann Marie Barcheski and her husband Walter, Tunkhannock, Patricia Zisko and her husband Brian, Rhode Island, and Mary Stec, Mountain Top, grandchildren Renee Barcheski, Kevin Zisko, Allison Zisko, and Ryan Gilmartin, sister Helen Stec, Wilkes-Barre, nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2021, Joe’s 91st Birthday, at 9:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705. Interment with Military Honors accorded by the United States Army and the Plains American Legion Funeral Honors Detail will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. Family and friends may call Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:00 am at the funeral home. Those attending the visitation and/or funeral, we ask that you be brief when paying your respects, please follow the practice of social distancing, and masks are required at all times at the funeral home and church.

Memorial donations may be made to Saints Peter & Paul Church Food Pantry, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705 in Joe’s memory.
