Verfin, 82 of Forty Fort, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Born in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late John and Laura (Czekaj) Verfin. Joseph attended Nanticoke schools and was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was quite proud of having served aboard the USS Boston – CAG-1. He was employed by ACME Warehouse, retiring after 25 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, having some of his prizes mounted. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years and best fishing buddy, the former Eleanor A. Malast on May 16, 2014, and sister Jean Cholewa. Surviving are his brother Richard Verfin and his wife Margaret, Ashley, sister Evelyn Van Pelt, Sheatown, children Cindy Johnson, Michigan, Paul Jacobs, Tennessee, Leonard Jacobs, South Carolina, niece Karen Gilligan and her husband John, Exeter, with whom he resided, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Joseph’s family would like to offer a special thanks to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially Ida and Charelle, The VA Hospice Care, especially Dr. Fino and Red and Andrew Brown Home Health Services, especially Paul.
