Joseph M. Krawetz, Sr., 81 of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Sunday morning, September 26, 2021 at Residential Hospice, Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre, with his family by his side.

Born in Plains Township, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary R. (Gazda) Krawetz.

Joe was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Plains, Class of 1958, and was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran, serving aboard the USS Campbell and the USCG Cutter, Ingham.  While in the Coast Guard, Joe attended electrical school in Groton, Connecticut.  Upon his honorable discharge from active duty, Joe was employed as an electrician for 30 years for the Conrail and Norfolk Southern Railroad until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Andre Bessette Parish, North Wilkes-Barre, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Coast Guard Veterans Association, The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1319, and the Triangle Club, Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre.  Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed fishing on Lake Ontario.  Joe also enjoyed working in his garden, metal detecting, and watching the New York Yankee’s.

He was preceded in death by his son Joseph M. Krawetz, Jr. on November 1, 2015, and his twin sister Regina Shubzda on November 3, 1989.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years the former Theresa Yastremski, daughters Michele Blockus and her husband Stanley, Dallas, Jackie Balas and her husband Tom, Glen Lyon, and Lori Krawetz and her companion Dave Pascucci, Bear Creek, grandchildren Jarod, Zachary, and Abby Blockus, and Maddie Krawetz, niece Sandy Ercolani, sister-in-law Carol Yastremski, two best friends, Rich Stuchkus, and Bernie Kalamba, and his two fur buddies, Coco and Yankee.

Funeral services with Military Honors accorded by the United States Coast Guard and the Plains American Legion, Post 558, will be held Monday, October 4, 2021 at 7:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA  18705.  Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.  Family and friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home.
