Joseph D. Lepore, 83 of Plains Township, passed away Monday evening, March 5, 2018 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in the Hudson section of Plains in 1935, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Adelina (Sementa) Lepore.

A graduate of Plains Memorial High School and King’s College, he received his Masters Degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1967. He taught French and Spanish in the Woodbridge, New Jersey School District, at Kingston High School, Kingston, and served as department chairman and language teacher at Wyoming Valley West High School until his retirement from Wyoming Valley West School District in 1999. Having also taught at Luzerne Community College and King’s College, he most recently served as adjunct instructor of French at Wilkes University until the age of 80.

He was a member and lector at the former Sacred Heart Church, Plains, and is currently a member of Saints Peter & Paul Church, Plains, the National Education Association, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, and Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System.

He was preceded in death by his brothers John Lepore, twins Frank and Pat Lepore, and sister Marion Lepore Kulka.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years Teresa Lepore, daughter Maria Teresa Stevenson and her husband Charles, son John Joseph Lepore and his wife Regina, 4 granddaughters, Abigail Ann Stevenson, Mary Teresa Stevenson, Emma Gaetana Lepore and Sofia Adelina Lepore, brothers Armand Lepore, Plains, and Ralph Lepore, Exeter, numerous nieces and nephews.

His life was fulfilled with many long lasting friendships and the love of family. He enjoyed travel, gardening, Italian cooking and the profession of teaching foreign languages.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at 10:30 at the Oblates of St. Joseph, 1880 Highway 315, Pittston, PA 18640, with Father Joseph D. Sibilano, O.S.J., officiating. Internment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains. Family and friends may greet the family Friday morning from 9:00 am till the time of mass at the Oblates of St. Joseph.
