John R. Niemiec, 64 of Hawley, PA, passed away Thursday evening, February 10, 2022 at his home with his family by his side.

Born in the Hilldale section of Plains, PA, he was the son of the late John J. and Mary A. (Benkoski) Niemiec.

John graduated from Bishop Hoban High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1975, received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1979, and his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, NJ, Class of 1980. He worked as a Certified Public Accountant for Deloitte in Parsippany, NJ for 40 years.

John and his wife Stacy raised their family in Hunterdon County, NJ for 25 years. They moved to Hawley, Pennsylvania in 2018, where his family loved to vacation. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his family. He particularly loved skiing, biking, hiking, bow shooting, fishing, and camping. He was a dedicated father and coached many of his children’s sports teams. When he wasn’t their coach, he always made a point of it to be at all of their events. At home, you could find him sitting in his chair on the front porch or dancing, singing, and just being goofy around the house. He loved to share stories of his childhood, from hunting with his dad to getting into rock fights with his friends. He also loved quoting his mother when teaching his kids life lessons. “Get up off the couch,” he would quote.

John’s greatest passion was his family, but he had many other activities and achievements in life too. A rocker at heart, John loved music and playing the drums. He played drums for multiple bands when he was younger and still played drums even as an adult, but this time his audience was his kids. John was also an active member of his church in New Jersey, teaching religious education throughout the years. He was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus as well as a member of BTI, NJSCPA, and AICPA.

John was a man of great integrity.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, the former Stacy Kousoulas of Hawley, PA; His four children, John and his wife Stacy of Studio City, CA; Jason of Lancaster, PA; Nicolette and Sarah, both of Hawley, PA. Also surviving are his granddaughter Olivia; brothers Frank and his wife Marlene of Towanda, and Joseph and his wife Jane of Laflin; many nieces and nephews, and Tucker, his loyal friend and dog.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705. A live stream of the Funeral Mass will be on Saints Peter & Paul Parish’s Facebook page. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains, PA.
