John “Jeff” Matrunich, 64, of the Hudson section of Plains, passed away Saturday morning, November 23, 2019 at Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA.

Born in Plains, Jeff was the son of the late John and Anna (Parada) Matrunich.

He was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Class of 1973, and was employed as a senior mechanic for Jack Williams Tire & Auto of Wilkes-Barre for about 30 years. He was also a loyal Times Leader carrier for 20 years.

Jeff was known by many as J.J., loved to watch his grandchildren play in the pool, cooking on the grill and making his famous cheese steaks, as well as restoring and driving his 67 Chevy Impala SS. Jeff could fix anything and took great pride in home improvement projects, and was very proud of his daughters, Nicole and Kristen, and the women they became.

Surviving are his loving Wife of 44 years, the former Eileen McDermott, Daughters, Nicole Wascavage and her husband Phil, Mountain Top, Kristen Pilch and her husband Jeff, Brigantine, N.J., grandchildren Branden and Cooper Wascavage, and Carter Pilch, Brothers, Robert Matrunich and wife Ann Marie, Pittston, Ronald Matrunich and wife Camille, Wilkes-Barre; Mother-In Law, Dolores McDermott Holmes, several nephews and nieces.

Celebration of life for Jeff will be held Tuesday November 26, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 South Main Street Plains, PA 18705. Family and friend may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
