John L. Ralston, 81 of Plains Township, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 12, 2017 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains.

Born in Wyoming, he was the son of the late Joseph & Ruth (Line) Ralston.

John was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1954 and was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, John remained with the Navy Reserve, retiring after 20 years of service. He was employed for Proctor & Gamble of Mehoopany until his retirement.

He was a member of the Plains American Legion, Joseph E. Conlon, Post 558 and was Past Commander for 3 years; a member of the Plains American Legion Military Honors Funeral Detail; District Commander of the American Legion, District 12; a National Committee Member of the American Legion; a member of the Kingston V.F.W., Post 283; the Polish American Veterans, Plains, and the Free and Accepted Masons, and was a founding member of the Peaceful Pioneers Hunting Club, Red Rock, PA. He was a member of the Bear Creek Messiah Primitive Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Kim Ralston.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Alice Young, Plains, son Jay Ralston and his wife Sharon, Plains, daughter Karen Ralston, Myrtle Beach, SC, Grandchildren Shaun and Bobbi Lynn, great-grandchildren Gavin, Makayla, and Jaxon, brother David Ralston, Chesapeake, VA.

Funeral Services for John with Military Honors accorded by the Plains American Legion Funeral Detail following the services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Inc., 20 South Main Street, Plains, PA 18705, with Rev. Hadley R. Hayes, Pastor of the Bear Creek Messiah Primitive Methodist Church, officiating. Internment with Military Honors accorded by the Plains American Legion and the United States Navy will be held in Mount Greenwood Cemetery, Shavertown, PA, at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call Friday evening, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
